Pianist Vadym Kholodenko's two young daughters die
This has got to be one of the strangest and saddest incidents where a father comes home to find his two young daughters dead on a bed. This was what famous pianist Vadym Kholodenko saw when he came home one morning to pick up his daughters for school. One daughter, Nika Kholodenko, was 5 years old and the other, Michela Kholodenko, was just one.
The autopsy reports indicate that both children died of asphyxiation. Their bodies were found in their Texas home on the bed with pillows partially covering their faces.
It was Vadym who dialled 911 and called the police as soon as he entered the home and saw what may have happened. He also told the police that his wife was “going crazy”.
The children’s mother, Sofya Tsygankova is the prime suspect in this gruesome double murder case. She has a past history of medical illnesses including anxiety, depression and she was on a number of prescription drugs to help her with a bipolar disorder.
Sofya was found in a bloody nightgown kneeling beside the daughters’ bed and rocking back and forth and making noises as if in shock. There were bruises found on her hands and wrists. Sofya plead not guilty but talked about having a bad dream the night before. She had even visited a mental hospital the day before the incident.
The incident happened in March and Sofya’s bail is now set at $2 million.
Vadym was married to Sofya Tsygankova for 5 years and had filed for divorce last year after they moved from Russia to the United States. His reason for divorce was a clash of personalities.
Vadym is known worldwide for winning the honoured Van Cliburn International Piano Competition in 2013.
